About Us

About Us

Kismet QuiltsAt Kismet Quilts we love what we do and it shows. From our carefully curated selection of fabrics, to the smiles on our customers’ faces. We aim to share our love of quilting with the world around us, and it all starts from our shop here in Port Alberni, at the heart of Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Kismet Quilts is more than just a quilt shop, it’s a community. A place where our friends gather to share their newest projects, seek advice on their next ones, and sometimes just catch-up with one another. We are proud to foster a creative environment where quilters feel at home and projects come to life.

Thread WallWe carry fabric collections from Moda, Robert Kaufman, and Timeless Treasures to name a few. We’ve also lined the walls with cutters, adhesives, patterns, rulers, threads, and more to make sure you have everything you need to keep creating.

Once you’ve finished your work of art, you can bring it back or send it in to Kismet to have it professionally quilted on our fully computerized longer Statler Stitcher. You’ll have access to our library of thousands of patterns to give your quilt the perfect finishing touch. You can rest easy leaving your quilt with us; our long arming staff are kindred quilters who understand the love and dedication you put in to creating your quilt, and they make sure to take the same care and attention in quilting it.

Quilts - Layers of warmth and loveWhen you’re happy with your finished project, and you’ve passed your smile on by giving your quilt to a friend or loved one, it’s time to start all over again. Join us for a class to learn a new technique, try a new pattern, or just as a great opportunity to get together and sew with people who love quilting just as much as you do!

We really do love what we do, and we are thankful every day for the great community of quilters, who are both our customers and our friends, that enable us to continue. Thank you for supporting Kismet Quilts!

Meet the Team

Lynne

Lynne is the founder and guiding light of Kismet Quilts. She is an accomplished quilter and long-armer, and treats every customer’s quilt like a sacred trust. She doesn’t think she needs a bio on the web page, so if you’re reading this, don’t mention it to her.

Jenna

As the Manager of Kismet, Jenna is the heart of the store. With her finger on the pulse of the quilting industry, she oversees every facet of the business, all while remaining – according to her – “awesome” and “cool.” We agree, but don’t tell her.

Susan

Susan is the flip flop queen. In the many years that she has been part of the Kismet crew we have only seen her in socks and shoes once. Susan loves traditional fabrics and raw edge appliqué. Having quilted for more years than she cares to count, she can help with all your quilting questions.

Patsy

Patsy is a fresh faced farm girl. She keeps us entertained with harrowing accounts of the antics of her chickens. Patsy loves delicate fabrics and brings a wealth of fashion sewing knowledge to Kismet.

Stephanie

Stephanie is our yongest crew member. She comes to Kismet with a diploma in Fashion Design and Merchandising. With her love of fashion, Stephanie brings a new perspective to our world of quilting. Her motto is “expect the unexpected.” Needless to say, nobody expected that.

Bruce

Known throughout the industry (or at least throughout the building) as The Quilt Husband, Bruce is the man behind the Kismet Chronicle. He keeps us laughing all day long and digs the store as much as we do. He has quilter jargon down pat, cuts fabric like a pro, and does all the heavy lifting.

Edie

Well known in the community as an extraordinarily talented sewer and quilter, Edie is a perfect addition to the Kismet crew.  She’s our gregarious, laugh-a-minute lady that loves to play with scraps and teach, especially beginners.
