"Art of Quilting Continues..." Kismet Quilts recently taught home schooled students how to quilt a pillow and the results were great. Both young ladies and ...young men took advantage of the opportunity to create a functional piece of art. The students had their pillows completed after four sessions at Kismet Quilts and Kismet owner Lynne Schroeder asked them if they would like to enter their pillows in the Parksville Quilt Festival that runs from May 29 throught 31. They were all excited to enter the Junior Fibers Arts Category.

Schroeder said that there are not very many youth entering this event so they may have an opportunity to even win prizes. Students that participated were: Jessie McGregor

Olivia Seguin, Caleb Dudenhofer, Kody Kincaid, Amy Barker, and Katey Kincaid. Instructors for the children were: Lynne Schroeder, Susan Freethy, Jenna Flory, Shelley Sloan, Mame Reeves, and Barbara Smith. Schroeder said, "I encourage all ages to give quilting a try, and it can be done by both men and women." If you are interested in learning how to quilt, or have a group that are interested, please drop by Kismet Quilts on Argyle Street (next to Boutique Belle Amies) or give them a call at 250-723-6605.

"Donated quilt helps critters" The local SPCA receives a unique and wonderful item for their silent auction...a quilt made by Shirley Bone and quilted by Kismet Quilts. Shirley Bone decided to donate her $100 that was given to her by Premier Gordon Campbell. She asked the SPCA if they would like the money or would they like to have a quilt. They responded with "a quilt." Shirley then spent her $100 plus to make up the wonderful quilt that was at the silent auction.

Bone's husband donated his money to the SPCA. She said that they have quite often fostered pets from the facility and also have adopted them. Bone also makes catnip mice that can be purchased at the SPCA with the funds collected going to those who cannot speak for themselves - the pets. Kismet Quilts owner Lynne Schroeder was more than pleased to assist in helping the SPCA by quilting the quilt for free. If you would like to help out the SPCA, donations of pet food are always appreciated.
